Powerball Lottery – Play and Win Jackpot Power ball

What is Powerball Lottery?

Powerball is played across 44 states in the U.S. in addition to Washington D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The game underwent significant changes in October 2015, when the main ball pool was expanded and the pool for the Powerball was reduced in order to generate larger jackpots as well as reduce the overall odds of winning a prize.

The biggest jackpot in the history of the game was the $1.58 billion split between three players in January 2016. The ticket holders, from California, Florida and Tennessee, each won $528.8 million.

What States Play Powerball?

Forty-four states across the country participate in the multi-state lottery, with Wyoming being the most recent addition to the Powerball game in 2014.

Include: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, Wisconsin plus Washington DC, US Virgin Islands

But residents of Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah will have to head out of state to buy a ticket for the chance to cash in on the winning numbers of the largest Powerball jackpot of all time.

Not only do these six states not participate in the lottery game, they don’t even have state lotteries of their own. While states like Utah and Hawaii outlaw all gambling of all kinds – be it charitable, commercial, at a racetrack, or on an Indian reservation casino – others just require residents to cross state lines to get their drawings fixes or play at state-approved casinos such as those in Nevada and Mississippi.

What is the Power Play option in Powerball?

Power Play allows ticket holders to increase their non-jackpot prizes for an additional $1 on top of their Powerball ticket. A Power Play number is drawn at random before the main game and, whilst the second tier prize will only ever double to $2 million, any prize won in the tiers below that will be multiplied by the number on the Power Play ball, with 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x Power Play options available in all draws. As part of changes to Powerball in 2015, a 10x Power Play option was introduced for when the jackpot is worth $150 million or less. Power Play is not available in California.

How to play Powerball?

Powerball is a two-drum lottery game. One drum holds 69 white balls, while the other drum holds 26 red balls. Only one red ball will be drawn, and that red ball is called the Powerball.

When you buy your ticket, you’ll select five numbers (these winning numbers will be drawn from the first drum with the white balls) and one Powerball number (the winning Powerball number will be drawn from the second drum with the red balls). You can choose your Powerball numbers or you can let the Powerball machine draw your numbers for you at random.

How to play Powerplay?

Can be added to any Powerball ticket for just $1.

Multiplies your winnings by 2 to 10 times on most prize levels (not including the jackpot; see Prizes & Odds chart for details).

The 10x multiplier is available when the jackpot is between $40 million and $150 million.**

Match 5+0 prize has a 2x multiplier automatically – increasing the prize amount to $2 million.

The Power Play multiplier is drawn during the Powerball drawing.

How to win Powerball?

To win a Powerball prize, you only need to pick one single number correctly: the red Powerball. Picking the Powerball alone will award you a $4 prize, which means that with a $2 purchase, you have one in 26 odds of doubling your investment in your ticket (there are 26 red balls to choose among).

To win the Powerball Jackpot, you need to match all five white balls in any order, as well as the red Powerball.
